Let’s Get the Party Started!!  Super Bowl LVII is right around the corner and whether or not you’re planning a party for 1, 2, 4, or 10, this recipe will get your party started for sure!

If you have ever visited Atlanta and asked for a list of great places to eat, Two Urban Licks was probably on that list.  From great food, to drinks, to the dreamy atmosphere plus great live music, it is one of the best restaurants in Atlanta and has been for a very long time.  The restaurant has been open since 2004.  My very first time going there was for my bridal shower in 2008.  I had the most delicious pot roast and mac n cheese that I have ever tasted besides my mamas, but the one thing that I remembered the most was an appetizer they call salmon chips.

My last time going there was right before Covid-19 for dinner with my girlfriends.  I honestly can’t remember what I even had for dinner, but what I do remember is the SALMON CHIPS and drinks.  Who knew salmon on a chip with cream sauce and onions would be taste so good!  Below is a pic of the real deal salmon and chips from Two Urban Licks. Even though this recipe is good, my mouth is still watering from this pic of theirs.

For this recipe, I searched high and low for large size kettle chips and of course couldn’t find anything like it.  I will say that it will be better to just make your own, this way you can cut them as large as you want.  For the sake of time, I just used kettle chips and made this recipe nacho style.

It took me two tries to get this recipe perfect, which isn’t bad.  What really makes this recipe is the getting the chipotle cream sauce right.  The very first time, I got everything way too salty.  If you are using smoked salmon like I did, it has a very smoky flavor and is already a bit salty, so it doesn’t need much of anything added to it.  There are several brands of smoked salmon depending on your area.  The brand that I love to use is Latitude 45 (pic below).  When you factor in the capers and chips being salty, you definitely don’t need to add any salt to this recipe anywhere and in fact, you can choose unsalted or lightly salted kettle chips.

Seasoned and ready for the oven! (see full recipe for deets)

Let’s talk a second about the chipotle cream sauce.  As, I mentioned above about the things that are already salty, the chipotle cream sauce needs to be creamy of course, but to me it needed be a little spicy/sweet to combat everything else being salty.  Again, it took me two tries to get it perfect.

This recipe really is simple and so so so delicious!  You will keep it on hand as a staple, I promise.  Even if you decide not to make it, you owe it to yourself to visit Two Urban Licks to try the original version of the salmon chips and to just see what the hype is all about.  They haven’t been one of Atlanta’s top restaurants for almost twenty years for nothing.  I promise if you put this one on your entertaining food list of Super Bowl LVII recipes, your guests will be happy and you may as well get ready to share the recipe. 🙂

Smoked Salmon

  • 8 oz smoked salmon
  • 1/4 tsp lemon pepper
  • 1/4 tsp old bay or cajun seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp cracked pepper

Chips/Potatoes

  • 1 bag kettle chips

Cream Cheese Spread

  • 4-8 oz cream cheese
  • chipotle peppers in adobo sauce start with 1 tsp of sauce and a half piece of pepper and adjust as desired hotness
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp sugar adjust to desired sweetness

Other for Garnish

  • 2 tbsp capers
  • 1/4 cup red onion
  • 2 tbsp green onion

Instructions

Smoked Salmon

  • Taste salmon first. It will already have a great smoky/salty flavor. You do not need to add much seasoning. You definitely do not need any more salt added.
You are also checking the salmon to see if it is done enough for you. Remember it is lightly smoked, so at this stage it is ready for sushi or a poke bowl. For this recipe, I prefer it a little more done and if you do also, continue on to the next steps.
  • Preheat oven 400 degrees.
  • Sprinkle salmon lightly with all lemon pepper, old bay or cajun seasoning, garlic powder, and cracked pepper.
  • Place salmon in a baking dish and bake for 15 min. DO NOT OVERCOOK. Let cool about 10 min.
  • Break salmon into medium-large chunks and set aside.

Cream Cheese Spread

  • In food processor, blend cream cheese, chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, smoked paprika, garlic and onion powder, and sugar together. Taste and adjust to desired flavor. If you prefer more spicy, add more of the peppers/sauce, more sweeter, add a little more sugar and so on. Set spread aside.

Smoked Salmon Chips - Putting it all together.

  • Add kettle chips to a large bowl, then add spread by the tsp or desired amount here and there, then add salmon, red onion, capers, and top off with green onions.
  • Repeat and enjoy!

Notes

**If you can find a larger kettle chip brand, that would be better, or also you can make your own using russet potatoes and cutting them as large as you want.  This way you can make several chips at a time instead of a nacho style as I did here.
