Savory Herb & Garlic Butter Recipe: Cooking Thanksgiving Turkey
It’s a few days before Thanksgiving and by now if you’re responsible for cooking the turkey you’re probably a little stressed because you want to make sure you have all the things to be sure that the main dish is the star and has everyone talking for days better yet years. I’m not exaggerating there. Really, people will talk about the best holiday turkey and ham they have had for years to come. I know I will never forget the best one that I have had and it’s been at at least 25 years. It was a smoked turkey from my brother’s in-laws. We have talked about that turkey for years, I literally can taste it as I am typing. Lol. I kid not.

One of the things you can do to give your Turkey one last little kick before roasting it is to baste it in butter underneath the skin. I’m telling you nothing beats this step, so don’t you dare skip it, okay! What does this do for the turkey, you ask? It helps keep the turkey moist and adds crazy flavor and it helps the skin brown and crisp. That’s it.Â
Now this idea was first mentioned to me by my sister. We have always used Lipton’s Savory Herb and Garlic Soup Mix, but in the area where I live, I can never seem to find it anymore. Me not getting my hands on it is what led me to create my own copycat version of the recipe. Not to toot my own horn, but it is pretty damn close. Good enough. Lol.

For the herb and garlic mix which are dry ingredients, you can make this ahead of time and store. This is a good seasoning mix for lots of other meats and recipes too. I like to make it by the jars. The only other thing you will need is real butter. Not margarine. Feel free to make a version of a butter spread if you feel like it works best for you.
Once you have prepped your turkey, brined, seasoned, and stuffed it, this will be the last step before roasting. Since the butter will be frozen, it’s easy just to slice it up. You will begin stuffing the slices all underneath the skin of the turkey all over. It will be messy, but that’s okay. Save a few slices to add to the inside cavity of the turkey. If you have extra, feel free to rub a little on the outside of the turkey skin as well.Â
Come on! This is the star of your show, let’s get her right! There is nothing more heavenly than smelling a roasted turkey that has been basted in this Savory Herb & Garlic Butter.
