Using Social Media To Get People To Your Website

Making social media work for your brand and website when there are hundreds of brands just like yours and even when people have never heard about you.

Most of us wake up everyday and grab our phones to hop on social media.  We want to find out the latest news with the ones we follow, but we also just casually browse at strangers or brands we’ve never heard of.  Social is crowded with everyone building brands and there are a lot of us in the same industry.  So how do we stand out? How do we grab all that attention on social and convert it to our website?

Social is a great place to get your brand in front of people.  It’s also great for getting more engagement and traffic on your content.  But if you want to truly sell your products or get that traffic to your website, it’s honestly not considered the best place to sell online.

Reason being is your target audience is mostly on social for fun and entertainment.  Social is a noisy place, full of distractions and most people don’t come there to shop.  Now more recently, third-party apps have made it really easy for you to convert a customer to a sale quickly by adding a shop button to your profile or tagging items from your feed posts and linking them directly to your shop-site or website.  This is a great addition, but it’s still hard to not get lost in the sea.

Let’s discuss 3 different ways to make social traffic work for your brand and website.

Hi there “Free Traffic”.

Social is definitely the best place to build relationships with your industry and your target audience which results in “free traffic”.  I say to you, communicate and engage.

Hi there “Backlinks”.

Backlinks are huge for SEO.  You ask, What are backlinks and why are they so important?  Backlinks are links that link from one site to another.  The reason they are so important to have is because search engines like Google use backlinks as a ranking signal for SEO, they feel that when one site is constantly being linked by one site or another, the website and content must be worthy and therefore ranks high.

The thing to remember about backlinks is to be sure your profiles on every social media platform has a link “that works” back to your website.  The way things are set-up now, you can have several links from your social profiles that link to various parts of your website.

This includes both your personal and business profiles as well as group and fan pages.  Anything you post on social, in bios, or on photos should all include a backlink back to your site.

Using Social Media To Get Traffic To Your Website

Hi there “New Audience”.

If you are out here trying to build a brand especially a personal brand, please add collaboration to the top of your list.  You should be connecting with industry brands and businesses to collaborate and get featured as a guest.  Websites, blogs, and podcasts are great for featured posts, but don’t forget social media pages for these brands.  BAM you have a new audience!

The point of it all, use social media for creating strong relationships with your target audience.  It’s a great place to show off your expertise and personality.  Whatever you do, plan on having a giving spirit and create the kind of content and education that will help them reach their goals and in return you will have built a community that will follow you to your website or wherever you want them to go.
