Everyone Won’t Like You & Why That’s Okay

I read an article some time ago and cannot recall who it was by, but it was the day that changed my perspective about life personally and professionally.  It went a little something like…The Art of Not Giving A Fuck.  Sorry kids, I make no apologies for the F..bomb at least for the purpose of this post.

I’m a person that likes to give of myself often caring too much so much so that I tend to forget about myself. I like to think that it’s a Virgo thing, it is said that we tend to be people pleasers.  At the time that I came across the article I was going through a really tough time in my life.

One day while out for lunch with a good friend we began to talk about some of the things that I had been going through and I remember telling her at how embarrassed it was and what would people think of me, what would they say. Her exact words were, “Why do you care? You really don’t need to care about what they will think. Besides, who are they?” She went on to say, “some people just aren’t going to like you or do right by you and you are just going to have to be okay with that.” Those words hit me like a ton of bricks and I have to say that I didn’t like them at the time, but as I walked away from that conversation I realized that those words were everything and she was right.

Shortly after that day was when I came across the article. To sum up what the article was about and to put it all into perspective, when you are mature you simply know how to count the number of fucks to be given.  This goes for every aspect of your life. You may think that this sounds mean and at the time I did too, but it is so true.

***Update*** (August 2017) I’m back to give an update, I found the article that I was referring to earlier, so I wanted to share it below.  Enjoy. 😉
